Description

Originally designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, in 1957, the AJ Lamp is among Arne Jacobsen’s most significant design icons. Part of the full collection, the AJ Wall Lamp has an iconic, graphic expression, that aligns wonderfully with Jacobsen’s design style and contrasted with the curvature of some of the furniture at the SAS Royal Hotel.

Emitting downward directed light, the angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimize light distribution. The shade is painted white on the inside to ensure a soft comfortable light.

Designer

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) is a world-famous Danish modernist architect, who designed numerous buildings in Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom. As an architect, Arne Jacobsen designed not only the building itself, but also the majority of the interior details, such as light fixtures, furniture, door handles, fabrics and even cutlery. After an award-winning career as an architect, Jacobsen worked as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts for 11 years, influencing an entire generation of Danish architects, each of whom eventually developed their own architectural language, many of which were built upon the same functionalist and minimalist approach as Arne Jacobsen’s.
